Migration Health Assessments are among the most well-established migration management services offered by IOM. They consist of an evaluation of the physical and mental health status of migrants for the purpose of resettlement, international employment, and enrolment in specific programs for obtaining a temporary or permanent visa.
Since 2014, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been providing migrants with direct access to health assessments at IOM’s dedicated health facility in Colombo. These migrant-friendly assessments are designed to align with international best practices and focus on the early detection and management of health conditions such as Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB).
These health assessments aim to ensure that the migration process does not pose a health risk to either the migrants or the host population, respecting the diverse immigration and public health policies across different nations. While the specific assessment requirements may vary, the common goal is to facilitate safe migration and safeguard public health.
We believe that enhancing the standard of well-being for migrants not only enriches their individual lives but also empowers them to make significant contributions to the social and economic development of both their home and host communities. By supporting the health and well-being of migrants, we foster a more productive and inclusive environment that ultimately benefits society as a whole.
