IOM Sri Lanka's Document Verification Solutions Program Secures ISO Certification for a Second Cycle

Mr. Chameera De Silva, National Operations Officer, presenting the ISO 9001:2015 certificate to Ms. Kristin Parco, Chief of Mission, IOM Sri Lanka and the Maldives

Colombo – IOM Sri Lanka's Document Verification Solutions program, managed by the Operations and Migrant Services (OMS) Unit, has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification for the second consecutive cycle. The certification, issued by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution on behalf of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is valid from October 2024 to 2027.

Originally certified in October 2021, this achievement marks a significant milestone as the first-ever ISO certification awarded to any document verification solutions program conducted by IOM globally.

The Document Verification Solutions program in Sri Lanka, operational since 2006, has processed over 152,000 documents as of October 2024 – the largest program of its kind in IOM. The OMS team is extensively trained in document fraud detection techniques, international migration law, fraud prevention, customer care and other specialized areas, ensuring adherence to IOM's data protection principles and global standards.

This ISO re-certification underscores the program's excellence in service delivery and operational integrity. It paves the way for expanding immigration and visa services, including enhanced document verification processes. Through the program, IOM Sri Lanka displays its strong commitment to providing objective and accurate verification, reinforcing confidence among Member States and migrant communities alike.

This internationally recognized achievement paves the way for improved internal management, increased efficiency and productivity, enhanced mechanisms, and opportunities for program growth and extension.
